Two Shark Attacks in Isle of Palms

Last month in the Isle of Palms, SC two shark attacks were reported on the same day. First a boy was attacked near the Isle of Palms County Park around 2pm. Then about three hours later a 30year old man was attacked at the Wild Dunes. The boy had non life-threatening injuries in the lower leg and ankle. The man had torn tendons and had two surjuries.

Immigrants Held in Kingsport

On September 5th a group of immigrants were held in the custody of the Immigrations Customs Enforcement Agency after being pulled over on the interstate for speeding, according to a statment from the Kingsport Police Department. The immigrants are believed to be from San Bartolome, Mexico.

Gray Fossil Site Opens

A new attraction has opened in the Tri. The Gray Fossil Site Visitor Center and Natural History Museum is now open. The museum shows visitors what kinds of creatures lived in the region millions of years ago. The museum includes interactive stations for kids and visitors can watch the scientists work. The museum is open daily from 8:30am until 5pm.

Bob Lewis Retires

New Price is Right Host

Monday, Drew Carey was chosen as the new host of CBS's Price is Right. Carey is now a host for two shows. He is hosting The Power of 10 on CBS starting August 7.

Floods in Great Britian

In Britain Monday, there was a enormous rain storm that flooded the Western and Centeral parts of the country. The 5 foot deep waters was the worst flooding in 60 years.

TSA Security Alerts

On July 20 a security alert was sent out by the Transportation Security Aministration after 4 seizures at the airports in San Deigo, Milwalkee, Houston, and Baltamore. In these insidents clay-like substances were found with wires and batteries. In two of the incedents blocks of cheese were found.

Michael Vick Charged with Dog Fighting

Michael Vick was in court Thursday on charges involving competitive dog fighting. The case started after police conducting a drug search found 66dogs including 55 pit bulls.

Study Reveals Diet Soda as Bad as Regular

In a new study those who drink more than one diet soda each day had the same increased risk for heart disease as those who drink regular soda. This doesn't nesisarily mean that diet soda caused the increased risk. It may be that the 0 calorie drinks cause a craving for sweets. Drinking several cokes in a day also increases your risk for metabolic syndrome.

Maria Sharapova is said to be the highest-paid female athlete in the world. The 6-feet-2 tennis champion-she’s so tall she instinctively prepares to duck when she walks through a doorway-is estimated to make $20 million a year in sponsorship deals. Right now she’s at Wimbledon, hoping to win back the title she won there three years ago, at a mere 17.

Floods in Texas Kill Over 11

Rain swept across Texas Yesterday for the 16th day in a row. The flood waters killed more than 11 people and have rained more than in all of 2006.

City to Buy Site of Warehouse Fire

The mayor of Charleston, Joseph Riley said Wednesday that the city will buy the site were the warehouse fire occured Monday. The city will make it a memorial and park to honor the 9 firefighters that died. It was the worst single loss of American firefighters since 9/11.

Fun Fest begins in Kingsport on July 13. The Fun Fest store is open at the Ft. Henry Mall on the 2nd floor.

Charleston, SC Warehouse Fire

On Monday there was a furniture warehouse fire in Charleston, SC. 9 firefighters died when the building colapsed. This comes just 2 weeks before our trip to Charleston. We'll have a full report on the city on July 8.

New Non-Smoking Law

Starting in 2 weeks a new law in Tennessee will take effect. According to this law in most restraunts and buisiness it is illegal to smoke.

New Smoking Law

The government has a new law on cigarettes. Beginning in May, people in Tennessee will not be able to smoke in workplaces. Many people are either upset or like this idea.

Tax Proposal

Tennessee legislature has introduced a bill that calls for a tax swap by lowering the sales tax and raising the cigarette tax. Governor Bredeson opposes lowering the sales tax but agrees with raising the cigarette tax.

A new study by the National Institute of Heath concludes that daycares are linked to bad behavior later in life.

I-181 Becomes I-26

Starting next week I-181 in Kingsport will become I-26. All exit signs will be changed with one starting in Kingsport going all the way to the state line. TDOT will change 284 signs.

A Florida company is selling the old Tweetsy Railroad. Some people want it restored but others want it torn down and used for trails. It is unknown what will happen to the railroad.

Astronaut Goes Insane

An astronaut went insane. She loved a man but another woman also loved him so she drove 9 hours from Texas to Florida to get rid of the other woman but was arrested by police. In her car, they found duct tape, a mallet, a steel pipe, and rubber tubing. She was suspended from NASA.

There is a salmonella outbreak in peanut butter. If you have Great Value or Peter Pan brand, check the serial number. If the number begins with 2111 throw out the peanut butter.

Movie Star Dies

The famous movie star Yvonne de Carlo has died. She played Lily Munster on "The Munsters".

Child Hit By Truck

9-year-old Lucas Polhemus was hit buy a truck on the 1300 block of Powder Branch Road. He is in critical but stable condition, and charges are pending against the driver of the truck.
